The current study provides evidence for the use of macrolids (clarithromycin or azithromycin) in mild COVID-19 treatment protocols, which could be effective for early fever management and PCR. The authors concluded that 60 mg/kg azithromycin in children or 3 days of 500 mg/day azithromycin in adults increase GAS eradication and clinical cure. Azithromycin works by binding to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria such as Mycobacterium avium, M. Azithromycin is equally effective as treatment of atypical pneumonia in adult patients if given for 3 or 5 days at the same total dose.
